The Epiphany January 2010

When my Aunt Breda was home from Chicago, we spent some precious moments together.  One of them was when we danced aroud the kitchen, another was when we were out looking at the stars.

Now, we have the story of The Epiphany when the Magi  -  the three Wise men find Jesus.  Many people say Christmas is only for children.  Well we are all children – children of God.  Each of us, like the Magi, is on a journey, a human yourney  -  as individuals and as a group.

The Word beccame flesh – the Eternal Word became flesh in a stable – a lowly place where there were animals  (which are sinless).  The Magi were guided by a star to this stable and bowed down before the child Jesus.  These were Wise men full of mind’s knowledge but they dropped all this knowledge when they recognised the Holy Child.

Each of us is called to recognise this Holy Child both in others and in ourselves.  The guiding star was a symbol of Wisdom and it rested where the Eternal Word, the Eternal Wisdom  -  Jesus , was born. I shared precious moments with my Aunt Breda but Jesus wants to share all of Himself, his Life, his Body and Blood with each of us.

Emmanuel  -  God is with us.              A.  S.
