I was talking to a friend of mine today about the things we look forward to right through the day from morning to night time.
Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. Jesus joined with all those who were repenting of their sins and being baptised in the River Jordan by John the Baptist. John baptised with water only and announced that Jesus would baptise with the Holy Spirit and Fire. This was when Jesus mission on earth began. Now God stretches out His hand to each person no matter who we are or what we have done, no matter how far down we have gone in our lives…
‘Even darkness is not dark for you, and night is as clear as the day’.
God desires that each of us live the fullness of life and it is through the Sacrament of Baptism this fullness symbolically begins.
Jesus came to give us eternal life, to bring to us the life for which we are created. He heals and restores us through this.
There is a yearning for God in all of us and it is God who makes the first move ‘not that we have loved God but that He loved us’.
The things my friend and I look forward to each day are simple. Maybe each one of us can recognise God’s presence in those
ordinary simple daily things, events and encounters.
