Catholic Schools Week 2013

This Sunday, 27th January marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. The purpose of the week is to highlight and celebrate the wonderful contribution that our Catholic schools make to our local communities and to society in general. This year’s theme is: ‘Catholic Schools in the Community of Faith: Sharing the Good News.

Our Parish is joining in the celebrations, by highlighting the gift of Grandparents, this Wednesday at the 10 a.m. Mass in St. Joseph’s Oratory.

On Sunday next the children and parents are invited to Mass to celebrate the Feast of St. Brigid who ushers in the Springtime. The schools in our Parish play such a significant role in the formation of our young people and in passing on the faith to them. Their work calls for the on-going support of the Parish Community. The home, the school and the parish together work for the wellbeing of all.

In an old Chinese story a wise teacher asks her students to identify the most satisfying thing in life. There were many good answers given such as ‘a happy marriage’, ‘good health’, and ‘close friends’. But the sage said they had all failed to give the correct answer. ‘The most satisfying thing in life’, she said, ‘is to see a child walk confidently down the road on their own after you have shown them the way to go.’
