Mothers’ Day.

My young nephew played a tune on the piano for me the other day. It was over the phone and I was ever so delighted.

Now today is Mothers’ Day and I’m sure we can all think of someone whom we regard as being very Motherly. Mother is at the heart of the home, at the heart of our Church, at the heart of humanity. Motherhood is a gift from God and indeed all Women are Mothers at heart.

Many people travel on pilgrimages to Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugorje or Knock in hon-our of Our Lady – our Universal Mother and isn’t it wonderful? One couple I know save all year to go to Lourdes. This is the highlight of their year and it renews and restores them – it keeps them going. Isn’t it wonderful to see Motherly love in action – Blessed Mother Teresa comes to mind – a Woman full of warmth, kindness, caring gentleness, nurturing.

Each Woman needs to discover her true nature. Beyond her family is a much broader expression of Mother. She is a Mother of all Mankind.
God is in the bits and pieces of everyday life like the tune my Nephew played for me over the phone. So today watch for expressions of Motherly love
in action.
