The Other day a friend who has depression sent me a text saying “The flowers are smiling at me”.

Isn’t it wonderful the way a person’s face lights up when they smile just like the flowers? Well, here we are and it’s Easter Sunday, the highest point of our Church year, celebrating the Resurrection of Christ. This is central to our Christian faith and it is this we celebrate each day at Mass.

Now I often feel I am less than other people rather than equal to them. I need to identify and take charge of these parts of myself that feel ‘less than’ and allow them to be resurrected. For many people resurrection is a gradual process and for others it may be a sudden experience. It is a journey full of experiences, growth and increasing awareness. Christ is accompanying us on this journey whether we realise it or not.

In many ways I need to parent myself, to treat myself with gentleness, kindness, tenderness and compassion encouraging myself each moment as I would a good friend – I need to befriend myself by listening to the quiet voice within, by letting it speak. It is through this voice that God guides us and draws us to himself. Easter – awakening, revival, renewal, restorations, Resurrection…’The flowers are smiling at me’. Alleluia. A.S
