“….her many sins must have been forgiven her, or she would not have shown such great love.
I am here listening to the sound of a wood pigeon. I love the way it finishes off on that abrupt note. It has a haunting, lovely song.
Today’s Gospel is about love, and forgiveness. The woman who has a ‘bad name’ in the town poured out her tears over Jesus’ feet and wiped them away with her hair. Then she anointed his feet with ointment and kisses. This was an act of great love, very moving and very humble. It was a Christ like action and resembles what Jesus does for us. Our greatest difficulty is in accepting this love, is allowing Jesus to love us in this way.
It resembles Jesus washing the disciples feet at the Last Supper, showing us that he came not to be served but to serve.
“….her many sins must have been forgiven her, or she would not have shown such great love”. When we forgive others we are also forgiving ourselves, just as when we love others we are also loving ourselves. In fact when we live this forgiveness and love, it is of God, not of ourselves. It just comes through us.
And just now I hear the cock crowing.
