You are the Salt of the Earth; You are the Light of the World!

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” (Nelson Mandela)

The World day of Prayer for the Sick is on this Tuesday, February 11th, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. We will remember in a special way all our parishioners who are sick and all those who care for them. In his message for this occasion Pope Francis says, “the Church sees in you, dear sick people, the special presence of the suffering Christ”, and he goes on to say, “God gives us the courage to face each adversity with him and united with Him”.
May God lay His healing hand on each one of you.

St. Valentine’s Day is on Friday, February 14th. It’s a day which is very
commercialised; but the central message of the day applies to all of us, as it is about celebrating the gift of love and loving in our lives. God is Love and as the hymn says, ‘Love is the greatest gift of all’.
